Question to Single Men who have health insurance and have a part-time job.?

After my friend hurt his back while in College, I found out how important it is to have health insurance. I make $9 an hour and I'm in college. My job doesn't offer health insurance.

What insurance company are you part of and how much do you pay monthly?

What insurance company do you think fits me?

Thanks in advance.

For a young healthy guy I would get a high deductible plan coupled with an accident plan. This way your premiums are low and if you get in an accident the deductible is covered by the accident plan. You could pay around $90 per month or less depending on your location. You could pay less if your drop the accident plan.

You should use yellowpages.com to search for a health insurance broker in your area. They represent many companies and can find a plan that fits your needs and budget.

Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company.

You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price.

If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant.

On the other hand if you are young and healthy and rarely use the health care system you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead.

Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation.

Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.

If you're 20 and healthy, health insurance is going to cost you about $200 a month for a low deductible plan.

Not all companies offer plans in all states, and each company can offer multiple plans, so someone's direct recommendation here is useless.

You need to talk to a local, independent agent, to see who fits you, that's in your AREA.
