Why are health insurance costs going up?

what are the seven factors that they are increasing

One of the biggest contributors to the increasing cost of medical care is that no one knows how much anything costs and the majority of people that get medical care are not paying for the care (their insurance company is).

In 1998 the normal cost of laser surgery was about $2200 per eye. Now it's close to $1350. It's no coincidence that this procedure is rarely covered by health insurance. Laser eye surgery is one of few health procedures sold in a free market with price advertising and consumer-driven purchases.

One of the ways that people are trying to keep costs down is with Health Savings Accounts (HSA's). Here is more information on HSA's:

I could write a paper about this question, but the short answer is:

1. Doctors and hospitals are charging more because the number of malpractice lawsuits is on the rise and, as a result, malpractice insurance rates are going up. In high risk medical professions, doctors pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance premiums to protect themselves. those costs get passed along to patients.

2. Healthcare costs are rising due to shortages in nursing (supply and demand) and also due to rising drug costs as pharmaceutical companies try to recoup their investments in drug development.

These are at least two of the major contributors!!

The bottom line, about why health insurance costs are going up, is because people are putting in more claims and having drastically increasing medical expenses.
