Private health insurance?

Im planning on getting heath insurance in a year to afford major orthodontic surgery. On their best benefits package, they say 12 month waiting period and 2,500 liftime limit of orthodontics. Now my friend said they will cover the entire 15,000 surgery. How does that work?

You need to talk to a broker that can help you sort through the options available to you. Most individual dental plans are not going to cover anything for cosmetic purposes and they usually have a12 to 18 month wait for major work.

You may have some luck with an HMO plan like Kaiser. Kaiser does have some orthodontic benefits.

Health plans uaually don't cover cosmetic benefits either.

Are you sure the surgery cost $15,000 that sounds pretty high.

Dental insurance is not a sham, I have a wife and two kids and cleanings and x-rays twice per year for each of us would cost way more than the I pay for the insurance.

Simple answer - Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about.

Orthodontic surgery will not be covered by a health insurance policy unless it is an accidental injury. In your case it is obvious that your surgery would not be the result of an accident as you are planning a year ahead of time.

But don't take my word for it and definitely don't take your friends word for it, instead call your agent.

ok i work in health insurance.

1- your friend doesnt know what they are talking about.

2- orthodontic coverage is for braces, not oral surgery. the waiting period you are mentioning and the benefit cap is in regards to orthodontia.

3- you better read over that dental policy front to back -twice- before you think they are going to cover 100% of a 15k surgery. that is a pretty steep price for an oral procedure. i would think twice about any dentist who is quoting something so high!

Dental insurance is a sham and you have to be careful of the dentist/surgeon you go to. They all bill codes that the insurance cos don't pay in order to MAKE you as an INDIVIDUAL PONY UP. Get an estimate of the costs and which codes they're going to bill under in writing first and take them to the insurance agency to see which coverage will get you the most benefit. Regardless you can expect to be paying a portion (how much I can't say) out of pocket.

what company is it with? are you going to be saving up for this procedure? how much is the monthly plan for this coverage?
I would love to know exactly what you needed done, and I could contact a dentist in my network in you area and get a free quote for you to compare.
There is no waiting period, no paperwork to fill out and you can use next day!

If you are interested, please e-mail me or visit my website and submit your contact information! Thank you for your time!

Ask your friend, if they're an expert on that particular plan. Me, I think your friend is dead wrong.

Normally, health insurance doesn't cover oral surgery, unless it's MEDICAL, like jaw cancer or such.

That orthodontics means BRACES.

why are you getting health insurance for dental procedures?
