Health insurance in florida?

Does anyone know where i can get good health insurance in florida. I hane been living here for the past 7 years and i had BCBSF before, it helped alot but i really could not figure out the deductible, i had a $500 deductible, i was once in the hospital for 7 days and when i got out the bill was $17,000, after they paid there part i only had $980 to pay, but that is still alot to pay for me, i try not to have alot of expenses, and i also put away for a rainy day, that bill has been paid and i am proud to say i am not in debt, and also have all accounts in good standing, If anyone knows of really good health insurance and also reasonable it will be grealty appreciated. Also i was paying $150 before and right now i would like to get something a little less but with good coverage. Thanks for the help.

The key is really to compare rates from multiple companies often (at least once every 6 months) to find the best health insurance rates.

Some of the top health insurance companies in Florida are:

1. Golden Rule (United Healthcare)
2. Humana One
3. Blue Cross Blue Shield of FL
4. Aetna
5. Assurant
6. Avalon Healthcare
7. United American (very limited benefits but highly rated company - only choose if you are unable to get coverage from any of the the above companies)

Compare quotes from all or most of the above companies and then speak with an independent Florida health insurance agent and in no time at all you will be able to find a cheap FL health plan.

Here is some more information on finding health insurance in Florida:

OK, well, 7 years ago you were younger. If you're 30 and healthy, that $500 deductible plan that you had is going to cost you about $300 a month now.

With health insurance, you get what you pay for. If you want to pay $150 a month, you'll have to take a $5,000 deductible, instead of the $500 one you used to have.

Go talk to a local agent, who won't scam you (like people on the internet will) and who can explain coverages, and balance out premiums with deductibles.

I'm a FL licensed health and life insurance agent. I can give you a free no obligation quote with several of the companies I write with if you want.

are you self-employed - there are some resources specific to florida on http://www.self-employedinsurance.net

What you're not understanding about your deductible, is the deductible part and the co-insurance part.

When choosing a plan, you need to find out what the out of pocket maximum is. With your old plan you probably had a $500 deductible. This means you pay the first $500 of everything. Then, more than likely, you had co-insurance at 80/20 for the next $3,000 (these numbers are just made up!) This means that for the next $3,000, you have to pay 20%. So, you got the $17,000 bill, they billed you your $500, plus an additional $480 b/c you were responsible for 20% of the next $3,000.

Be careful b/c sometimes policies will list the out of pocket max (OOP), and then say "does not included deductible." So, you have to add in the deductible amount.

Remember that you're 7 years older now, and if you have any health issues, your rates will be much higher. You will probably have at least a $2,000 dedutible in order stay under your monthly premium.

Now a day's, you have to think about health insurance in a different way. Not how much you have to pay, but how much you DIDN'T have to pay! You got a great deal paying only $980. Imagine if it would have been $17,000?
