my health insurance thru my new job starts on july 5th (3 months after full time hire)...its Cigna open access, and i have my first prenatal appt (ill be 9 weeks) is on the 7th..my question is where do i get all my information to give to the drs by th 7th....doi get it online or will i have to wait for it to be mailed to me in which case what do i do about my appt...?? thanks!

It's usually not a problem at all for you to not have your insurance card or information at the time of your Doctor's appointment.

Just call your HR department (or call CIGNA directly) in order to find your ID # and you should be in good shape.

Here is some more information about CIGNA and also some more information on maternity health insurance coverage:

It's pretty unusual for insurance coverage to start on a date other than the first of the month, so please double check with the human resources department at your work to make sure you'll be covered in July. They will usually make you wait until the first of the following month of qualification to have coverage.

If you are covered and have not received information (ie: insurance card) by your appointment, get Cigna's telephone number from their website or your HR department and give them a call. If you are enrolled they should be able to look you up by name, date of birth, social security number, etc. and ask them for your identification number, group number, copay information (so you can pay the doctor), telephone number for providers (so doctor's office can call to verify your billing information), and any prescription coverage you have (for you prenatal vitamin prescription). I've worked in pharmacies for 10+ years, and the PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager), or the company your medical insurance hired to handle pharmacy claims, is sometimes not the same as your medical insurance. You'd need to know who the PBM is, and your pharmacy ID number and group number (which is sometimes not the same as the medical ones) to give to your pharmacist along with your prenatal vitamin RX.

Both your doctor's office and your pharmacy will understand if you haven't received your ID card(s) yet, it happens ALL the time, and will usually be happy to take the information you've gathered for now and you can present your cards when the arrive.

Good luck and congratulations!
