They can have a waiting period of 6 to 12 months (depending on state laws) up to a permanent exclusion or they can decline to accept you alltogether. They will often shorten the waiting period for minor conditions, such as allergies, if you've had previous insurance but they don't have to. OK, if you get on a group policy, and you didn't have credible coverage for 12 months, the waiting period is usually 12 - 18 months, varies by state.
