Can your bf or friend put you on there health insurance?

I might have to quit my job in July Im preg and is extemtrely drained from working I cant use my FMLA till Oct I cant wait that long I was thinking about quitting..So can a friend or my by put me on there insurance for the time being? till i have the baby..I probably have to get medicade huh?

He's your boyfriend, which makes him not family. So no he cannot put you on his insurance. Get married to him, then he can put you on his insurance, because marriage binds you together which makes you family!

I don't know about in the US, but in order to be added to my husband's benefits at work, we had to either be living common-law (together, acting as a marriage, without an actual marriage) for 2 years, or we had to be married. I could not be added any sooner. We married one month before we had been living together common-law for 2 years.

It's probably different for every insurance company, so ask your boyfriend to look into it. You boyfriend can add the baby to his benefits once the baby is born, assuming the baby is his. I know a friend cannot add you.

Unless your boyfriend has a domestic partner availability offered by his employer it would be unlikely you could be included on his insurance coverage. Now, your baby will be able to be added as soon as he/she is born. Check with your own current insurance, they may have some type of additional insurance coverage they offer, but it is likely to be fairly expensive. A friend can't add an unrelated person to their insurance. It is most typical for insurance coverage to only extend to spouses and children. It is most likely you'll need to get medicaid if you intend to completely quit your job and not just take a leave of absence.

If you have been paying in to a state disability, you can go on disability and not have to "quit" your job. Kinda depends on the state you are residing in and how your job pays in to it or not. Also, it depends on the state you live as to if you can file for a "Domestic Partnership" (doesn't matter what sex the couples are, gay or straight) which is like being married, but not. At that point if you are listed as a legal partnership, then your bf can put you on his medical. You really should check into the medicade though. Otherwise you need to get married for medical insurance. Before you quit, check into state disability. It could save you having to quit if you don't need to.

It depends on their company policy. My company allows you to insure a domestic partner. If you live with your boyfriend and his company policy allows it you may be able to get on his insurance, but only during the open enrollment period which is typically at the end of the year. Only 'life events' such as marriage, divorce, birth, or death generally allow you to make changes outside open enrollment.

You can probably qualify for family planning services through Medicaid.

In most states and for most insurance companies you need to be married unless there is a recognized domestic partnership of some kind.

Does your employer know you are pregnant, what kind of work do you do? Would they consider a reduced work schedule or allow extra breaks or something? How far along are you? It's normal to feel tired and sick in early pregnancy, but you will feel better and have more energy towards the middle of pregnancy, so I would try to tough it out if at all possible and don't do anything hasty and quit.

Good luck!

He has to marry you first. If friends could be put on health insurance, there would be a rash of that going on. Unfortunately, most insurances won't pick up a woman that is already pregnant. It is a preexisting condition. Keep your job. You will be glad you did. If you think you are tired now, just wait.

No I don't know of any insurance company that would let your boyfriend or your friend put you on their policy. If you and your boyfriend get married that is a different story...then you would have 31 days from the day you were married to get added on the policy or he could add you during the companies open enrollment.

Yeah I think you'd have to get medicaid. But look at it this way, with medicaid you have no deductibles or copays! Lol. Not that I recommend living off the state if you can avoid it, but if you have no other options then definitely apply. You don't wanna be pregnant with no health insurance!!

Some people have a domestic partnership option. It usually costs more, if he does then he might be able to put you on it, but you have to show proof that you two are really together, like have bank account together, and both your names on some kind of lease.

The only way you could do it was if your friend(girl) worked in a gay friendly workplace and you were "dating"..... It insurance fraud but, who would know..?

Not someone who's just a friend, but in some companies/states a heterosexual couple can put each other on insurance as Domestic Partners if they meet certain criteria. (Many states only allow that for homosexual couples, since heterosexual couples have the option of marriage).

Only your spouse can put on their insurance. If it is really necessary for you to leave your job, then you'll have to check in an assistance program.

Find out if your state has common law marriages. If yes, have your mate ask his employer for a common law affidavit, and sign up. Beware of other legal ramifications.
