Can my GF be qualified for health insurance?

I was wondering if its possible to put my GF on my health insurance. It says in order for me to put her on my insurance, she needs to be a dependent on me. Well for these past taxes her brother put her as her dependent and well now I'm paying for everything for her, not her brother. Example: Food, Necessities, Gas, Transportation. Will she be considered by dependent or is there another way I can put her on my insurance because she needs the insurance, because she has MS and needs to see specialists.

Do you live together? Some states (and some medical plans) have a domestic partner clause which would allow her to be covered under your health insurance if she meets certain criteria.

Do you have coverage through your employer? If so, contact your HR department and ask them if a domestic partner can be covered by your health plan. They'll be able to answer your questions and even get the enrollment process going, if she's eligible.

Best thing for you to do is ask your insurance company directly. Hopefully you have insurance through your employer in which it is a group policy because if not it may be difficult for you to find an insurance company that will cover her due to the MS.

Another option for you to look into in the meantime is Ameriplan. Now it's not insurance, which is why it would work so well for you right now. There are no pre-existing conditions limitations or denials, all specialists are included (considering they are available in your area) there are also no waiting periods, you start saving immediately.

How it works is Ameriplan has contracted directly with our providers who have agreed to reduce their regular rates for services and pass those savings directly on to our members. There are no claim forms or paperwork to fill out since Ameriplan isn't insurance & doesn't pay out claims. This means you go to the doctor and pay them cash directly for services, but instead of paying full price, you save up to 80% immediately.

I personally use their plan and have for over 2 years now. You can find out more on the website, as well as search for providers in your area, along with specialists. http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/cberney

Hopefully you will be able to find something that will work for ya'll and good luck.

Likely, she'd have to LEGALLY be your dependent - meaning, on your tax return. AND, your company would have to have a policy of letting domestic partners be added.

OR, you could just marry her, and add her then.

Find out if your state is a "common law" state. If the answer is yes, ask your employer to provide you with an affidavit from the insurance company, and sign her up.
Careful! There are other legal ramifications to this.

I guess consulting on the experts are the best way to find out the answer on your concern. Try to check this out. I sure it can help you.

A dependent means your wife and kids. Not someone that you pay the bills for.
