Do antidepressants cause higher health insurance rates? |
If so, why? Also how much higher. I probably need them, but I also don't need higher rates. I already pay over $200 a month. Lucky me. : / If you currently have health insurance the premium will not go up because of the medication. Why is because mental health care is outrageously expensive and you are now a higher risk to the insurance company. Your existing insurance company cannot single you out for a rate increase based on claims history. However, if you ever want or need to change insurance companies you may be subject to up-rating or denial of coverage of a new policy based on your medical history.
