Why is car insurance required by law but not health insurance?

Why is car insurance required by law but not health insurance?

personal responsibility...you are responsible for your OWN health and if in an accident responsible for the damage you cause...if you cause damage to your own body you are responsible for yourself...it is your freedom to choose not to have health insurance if you don't want to have it...its called FREEDOM from a government nanny and tyranny state...something our founding father fought against...

Take care.

Because your car is like a weapon that can harm people. You need "liability" insurance to pay the damages. Liability insurance is for the people you damage, not for YOU.

Health insurance is purely for the benefit of the owner, YOU.
Be careful what you ask for, because some health care insurance is exactly like car insurance. You have to buy it, and if you don't have it, you will get a ticket and no health care. Health care insurance should NOT be treated the same as auto insurance. Liability insurance requirements are OK. Health care requirements (meaning you must buy it) are not acceptable.

Because the car insurance required by law, is the part where you have to pay the damage/injury you cause to others. Health insurance only covers YOU.

It's about responsibility. Car insurance that you are required to buy, covers your responsibility to others. Health insurance doesn't COVER responsibility to others.

FYI, WI and NH do NOT require you to buy car insurance.

Car insurance is not for the "insured's" protection but for everyone else on the road- in case you cause a wreck.

Health insurance on the other hand is an option- you should choose whether you would like to pay 25% of your paycheck to an insurance provider or simply pay per each doctors visit... or atleast thats how it should be, but thanks to a government that believes working people like you and I should pay for our own insurance and everyone else's, that's not always the case!

Actually, not all states require liability insurance, New Hampshire and Wisconsin do not. However, in these states you are still legally obligated to pay for any damages, including injuries to the other party if you are legally liable for the damages.

FYI - MA requires all citizens to carry health insurance. There are programs that assist the lower income citizens.

Auto insurance is required because You are operating a multi- ton machine that can maim or kill other people .
Many people who operate vehicles are immature or incompetent when dealing with a malfunction ,
sooo , they require liability insurance in case you injure someone with your car .

Health insurance is for you & your own choice ,
If you want it or not .

UK ? It is = it's called NI ('National Insurance') and all workers and companies have to pay it ..

Of course the Government doesn't use if for the National Health (or for Pensions or un-employment payments) .. any more than Petrol/car Tax is used to pay for roads .. NI is just another Tax.

WHILE MOST PEOPLE HAVE ONLY ONE CAR YOU COULD HAVE 3 OR MORE FAMILY MEMBERS CHECK THE HEALTH INSURANCE LAWS IN MASSACHUSETTS,S SO YOU CAN SEE HOW LUCKY WE ARE SO FAR .
YOU PROBABLY WONT NEED CAR INSURANCE BECAUSE YOU WONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY LEFT FOR A CAR.

It is only Third party insurance that is required by law. If you cause an accident you would not have the money to pay for someones vehicle damage or at worst personal injury or death.

very intereting question.Suggest you have a look here for useful tips.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...
