Should a person be denied employment or health/life insurance to someone who has risk factors for CVD?

e.g. a company firing and not hiring smokers.

keep in mind a lot has to do with lifestyle & im just wanting opinionss.
im not being mean :)

It's going to be really hard to identify some of the risk factors for CVD.

But life and health insurance companies, have to be able to discriminate - just like car insurance companies - so they can charge adequate rates to cover the losses, in any group.

Employers can choose one employee over another, for any reason they want. I don't think you'll find any employer to say they didn't hire someone because they smoke.

BUT, as a nonsmoker, I can tell you, all those smokers abandon their desks, for all those 15 minute smoke breaks. AND, some of them even smoke in the bathroom, which is very annoying to some of us nonsmokers.

Nonsmokers tend to be more productive. And they don't smell funny, either. Smokers don't even REALIZE, that they smell funny, because their noses have acclimated.
