Can I have military health insurance and Regular Health Insurance?

1.Am I allowed to have both military and normal health insurance?
2. Can I see regular nonmilitary doctors with Military health insurance?

If you are AD you are full covered at the base medical clinic/command and normally cannot have outside insurance. there is no cost to you what so ever

If you are a dependent then yes you can have both, they will have your normal health insurance first then whatever isn't covered is picked up by Tricare as long as you are going to an approved Tricare facility/doctor.

If you are Reservist/National guard then having outside insurance is good because Tricare coverage for you is separate than AD. It is the same with Retirees & their dependents.

If you are going to just have Tricare and you want to see a civilian doctor/clinic then you should go with Standard where there is a yearly deductible and co-pay. You are still required to see a doctor that is approved by Tricare to be covered. If you are on Prime then you need a Referral from your PCM or Tricare to see a civilian. If you wish to see a civilian and your PCM then Tricare needs to approve it first and foremost.

You can but if you are active duty you are wasting your money with the normal health insurance since Tricare will pay for everything. Outside of the ER; you can only see the nonmilitary doctors if you get a referral. Anything you aren't referred for has to be paid out of pocket. This is assuming you are in the military, if you are a dependent it works a little differently and you need to contact Tricare about your situation.

I do. I always try to use Tri Care first (if the doctor accepts it) and all my doctors accept both so they apply one andwhat that doesnt cover then they try and use the civilian one. Since I'm in the reserves right now I only see non military doctors, you just have to make sure iwth your healt care provider

as a dependant i had insurance through my job (Premera) and tricare from my husband. Premera became my primary and Tricare became secondary, i still went on base, or got referrals for off base so that tricare would pick up what Premera didn't pay.

Yes but be careful, claims can be tricky and one of them will be the primary. In all actuality, you are required to inform tricare if you have other insurance. They will look for any reason not to pay for care and put it off on another carrier.
