Can my church offer group health insurance to the entire congregation?

Members of the church would have to pay their portion, but can the church offer group health insurance to members of the congregation?

We鈥檙e in Virginia, and insurance isn鈥檛 currently offered to the two part-time staff.

What if we hired participating members as part-time employees of the church, and got a health coverage plan for all "employees" of the church, full and part-time?

yes, but you would need atleast 100 people and it would be expensive unless your average person is less than 40 years old..

and it would still be 300 bucks or more per month.

Interesting question. Quite needed, actually.

If you are asking about the entire congregation
and not just the two hired staff, I think that's something
we should ALL pray for!

I would say as with any business, large or small,
employers can look into getting insurance through one of many
insurance companies, who are willing to do it,
for a price. Usually much higher, the less employees.

But as for the entire congregation,
because they are not employees, I do not believe any company
would offer such coverage.

May the Lord bless you and yours.

P.S. Oh yes, I almost forgot. When employees are part-time, I do not know if the companies will offer them insurance. There are other companies around that offer "discount" insurance basically. They usually call those indemnity plans.

Is your church licensed to sell insurance? If not, no.

For a GROUP health plan, at least 50% of the eligible people must participate.

Can you get half the congregation to sign up? And then, ONE ENTITY is responsible for the bill every month, for EVERYONE. You cannot make changes from month to month. If you can't collect premium from someone, on a group plan, you still have to PAY for them, whoever the one billing person is.

In other words, it's not realistic.

True group health insurance cannot be offered to congregants. You could obtain individual insurance for congregants using a group rating scheme, if the congregation were large enough and if the insurance company wishes to go along with the idea.
