Health insurance for Aussie moving to Canada?

I am moving to Canada on a working holiday visa in the next few months. Can anyone tell me how health insurance works there?

I have just spent the past few years in England and Italy, which Australia both have reciprocal health agreements with. When I landed in hospital in either country (accident prone one here) it was free as were doctor visits.

Does Australia have a similar agreement with Canada or am I going to have to fork out for travel insurance?

Thanks!

There is no reciprocal agreement between Australia and Canada so you will need to purchase supplemental health care insurance. Canada does have universal health care (we're a civilized nation) but that doesn't mean just anyone can use it.

You ask a very good question but, honestly, it took me a few seconds to find the above link on Google.

You will need travel insurance as BC medical will only cover you after you live here for six months.I do not believe we have such an arrangement between Canada and Australia although we are both members of the Commonwealth.I do recommend you get travel insurance because without it and something happens to you it could cost you much more than if you had coverage.

Please...please...please...get the insurance.
I was in the reverse situation, A Canadian in Australia when I got bit on my face by some type of spider. My head swelled up and I had to go to the hospital and I had no insurance. It cost me 6 grand.

There is no such agreement for Canada - unfortunately, as I was taken ill on a trip to Australia and had to pay the medical bills myself.

if ur not a resident of any province of Canada, u have to purchase travel insurance...Health Insurance is provincial not national

You need to get travel health insurance. Canada barely has a reciprocal agreement between the provinces.

you will need to get travel insurance before you come
