When I'm 65, do I get rid of my health insurance through my company and go on Medicare or how does that work?

When I'm 65, do I get rid of my health insurance through my company and go on Medicare or how does that work?

Depends if the company you work for all allow you to carry their insurance after you retire. In any event, after you retire, Medicare will become your primary insurance and your company sponsored becomes your secondary carrier. Once you retire, you will need to find a secondary insurance as Medicare will not cover all expenses. Source(s): I'm 67 and retired.
when you're 65 and your company will continue to pay for your insurance then you should let them pay. if you want medicare, then go on medicare.
