Does anyone know the law on turning away patients without health insurance i looked it up but no find answer? Since you posted your question under "Dental" I am going to go on a limb and guess you are being turned away from a dental office, not a hospital, because you don't have insurance. There is no law or rights concerning your Dental health. Just keep calling other dentists, or try a local college that has a dental program and you will find one that will work with you. Good luck Hospitals do it, but if they have taken any federal funds for any reason, it's against the law. You need a lawyer to take care of that. I doubt writing to the Bush Adm. that you will get any help. I work in a doctors office and know we never turn anyone away, we have a sliding fee scale and we have a monthly payment plan without interest, and I know the hospital here has a charity grant to help people pay for their hospital charges. I'm not sure what state you live in but, I would look into it. good luck. Most of the Big cities have state run hospitals which I believe have to accept you.You might have to wait awhile to be seen, but you should eventually get in.If you take an Ambulance, they have to take you immediately! THIS IS NO PUBLISHED LAW, BUT THE PRINCIPLE OF DENTAL ETHICS COMES ON THE SCENE. UNFORTUNATELY, BECAUSE OF THE AUTONOMY REGARDING DENTISTRY ANY PRIVATE DENTIST CAN REFUSE TO TREAT ANY PATIENT FOR ANY REASON. A DENTIST As another answerer said, I am assuming that since you put this in dental you were turned away from a dental office. I find it hard to believe that you would be "turned away" for not having insurance. I would think that they didn't actually say that they wouldn't see you, but rather that they would not allow you to pay out the services that they would provide for you. I have never heard of a dentist turning away someone simply because they don't have insurance. Most dentists wouldn't care if someone did or didn't have insurance, as long as they paid the bill. Now as far as medical doctors, since I don't work for one of those, I don't know what the laws on that are. I know that if you are in a labor or in a life or death situation, ER's can not turn you away, but they can transfer you to another hospitol, I saw that on an ER waiting room wall. |
