Is there anyone or agency that assists with my rights when health insurance raises premiums by 50% each year?

individual insurance. had since 1995. paid more premiums than they have paid out. they raise premiums every 6mos by at least 20 pct. because thay have discontinued the type of policy we have, and the persons in our pool keep dwindling. rather than offer other another type policy, they raise our premiums astronomically. we are in a position that with pre-existing conditions, we cannot get insurance with another company. we've tried. we have another 3 yrs before medicare. help. insurance ripping us off. large profits at our expense. where can we get help??

The previous answers are right, you should definitely contact your state insurance commissioner. If you have an agent, you should get him or her involved. If you don't have an agent, find a good one in your community, explain what's happening and see if they know of any solutions.

To find a good, local agent, ask your friends who they use. Or, you can go to the web site of the national trade association for agents (it's called the National Association of Health Underwriters.) Click on the "Consumer Information" tab, and then the "Find an Agent" link. It only takes a few minutes. Their web site is www.NAHU.org .

You're in a tough spot and you have my sympathy. Hopefully getting a professional on your side will help. Good luck. Source(s): http://www.NAHU.org
You can contact your state insurance commissioner. The best way to track down the number is to either check on your state government website or contact your congressman. They may be able to assist you in appealing to your insurance company to offer you a transfer to a different policy without the pre-existing conditions being an issue. Also, there are some states that have mandated that if you transition from one health policy to another without any lapse in coverage, they cannot hold you responsible for pre-existing conditions. Your Dept. of Insurance can guide you on this as well. Good luck.
Your state legislature statutes should have information on it. I checked Nevada (where I live) and found that there is a commissioner that all insurance companies must get approval from for rate increases. This has to be substantiated by mortality, accident, and medical care rates.
