Do not stop nursing your baby. I'm sure you already know that as we speak your body is producing antibodies to protect your baby. That is the one of the many purposes of breastmilk. It's great that you are nursing so your baby won't catch your illness.

Also beware that any antibiotics that you may be put on put you at greater risk for giving thrush to your infant and/or contracting yeast in your breast. Only go on antibiotics it it's absolutly necessary. Take a probiotic and eat lots of yoguart with good bacteria to protect yourself against this.

I would bulk up on Vitamin C .. can you get Emergen-C? It's a powder form you put in water. Most health food stores have it, and some regular grocery stores. Also ginger in all forms (drinks) is wonderful to sooth your throat and bring down the inflammation. I'm sure you are exhasted being a new mom and all - try and rest as much as you can.

Go to the www.mothering.com forum and register and ask there - lots of nursing mom's with experience on that forum could help you. Not to worry, it's going to be okay.
Stop nursing that baby immediately and take your butt to a clinic somewhere. No healthcare facility can deny you for not having health insurance. Failure to do so could result in some serious things that you would regret the rest of your life...
Work at a clinic
go to a hospital emergency room or walk in care center. If you have strep, your baby is at risk. Not so much from breast feeding but just from the close contact. Strep can be very dangerous to babies.
Hospitals HAVE to see if even if you don't have insurance. And when you go in,they will have you fill out financial assistance papers.
Depending on your state, you may qualify for free health care. Ask when you get there. But GO! NOW! for the sake of your kid!
Follow the advice already offered. Fortunately the antibiotics that are usually used for strep are inexpensive
Go to the doctor! If there is a free clinic in your area or similar, that is obviously the best bet. Luckily for you, retailers have been having prescription wars and have certain lists of drugs you can get for cheap (i.e. $4-$8). Since strep is typically treated with antibiotics, and most antibiotics are on this list, you should be able to get the prescriptions. Make sure you take the full course of the prescriptions (all 10 days!).
