I am a German national coming to work in the UK. Do I need health insurance or can I use the NHS? You can use the NHS. All you need to do is find your nearest doctor (when you're settled into a house) and register with them. National Insurance Contributions come out of your pay each week (with your tax), so you don't pay anything when you visit. My advice: register straight away, even if your not sick, otherwise you'll never get around to it. And then when you DO get sick, you can make an appointment straight away without having to figure out what to do. *** You might want to get yourself some travel insurance for the first few weeks, just to cover yourself as a tourist in a new city! I think if you get the E111 (Its not actually that anymore, but if you search for it, you should be able to find out what to do), you should be able to use the NHS as you are in Europe If your in employment you would have to pay any prescription charges for medication after any initial treatment at any uk hospital,Prescription charges are about 拢6 per item.I would still advise you to invest in some form of medical insurance just as a precaution anyway.. why dont u see your own doctors and ask no you do not need any insurance my friend as we are the softest Country in the world when it comes to dishing out our hard earned taxes to people who abuse the sytem, you will be comming here to work and you would pay in deductions towards the health care you might need, you are perfectly entitled to use it for free, good luck to you and your carrer move im sure you will enjoy it, many thanks As you are an EU national you are able to use the NHS system. I did the reverse of you, I went from the UK to Germany and I first needed to fill in a form (it was similar to an E111 but for a longer length of time) and then when in Germany I simply registered with the local health centre. I assume a similar system is in place for German nationals in the UK. Hello ! I am a German too and have lived here for several years If you work in the UK or study here, no problem. Make sure you regsiter straight away before you get ill. Travel insurance for the start is a good idea. You should also get a EHIC/European Health Insurance card (formerly E111). Are you leaving Germany completely, is your German employer sending you? Are you a student? Things are easier when your employer sends you! |
