Will most health insurances cover laser eye surgery? |
Obviously I plan on calling my Health insurance company tomorrow to find out, but I wanted to know now, if anyone knows if it will cover laser eye surgery? I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. I know of NO insurances that cover Lasik surgery! It is considered not medically necessary. It is kind of like how the health insurance will not pay for eye exams, glasses or contacts. But when I researched it, here is what I found: "While many insurance plans do not cover the expenses for corrective eye surgery treatments, some plans will cover a portion of the costs." http://www.newmanlasik.com/html/insuranc... "Although LASIK is not a cosmetic procedure, it is considered an elective surgery. Such surgeries are covered in many European and Asian countries. However, most United States, Canadian and Latin American insurance policies will not cover the procedure, nor will Medicare usually cover it. If you reside in the U.S., you should check with your insurance company to see if your policy offers partial or full coverage." http://www.lasikinstitute.org/faq.html#c... Source(s): I had Lasik surgery last year and had to pay out of my pocket. It was expensive ($5500 for both eyes), and I really could have used the money elsewhere, but I would do it again in a HEARTBEAT! Best wishes..... Not that I know of. Unless you really need it, most insurance agencies regard them as cosmetic procedures, and refuse to cover them. Nope, it is an elective procedure......I even tried to get mine to cover it because my eyesight is rapidly degenerating at a fairly young age.....without success. |
