What happens if i lie when i apply for my health insurance?

I recently got a new job which provides health insurance... but the problem is that my son around 12 years ago had cancer, he was treated and cured in another country several years ago. If i wanted him to be covered i believe my insurance payment will go up, If i lie and say that no one in the family has had cancer would it matter?

Sometimes they fire people if their health condition (or a family member's health condition) or the insured's age raises the premiums for the company. They will think of other reasons to fire you so that it can't be traced to discrimination, but it can happen. I believe it happened to me. I had cancer and was in treatment with an insurance from a second job. I didn't mention the cancer. When I finally got on fulltime with benefits, the administator said to me (privately) "why didn't you tell us you had cancer when we hired you?"....we were alone and I can't prove they fired me for that, but I KNOW. And I have seen it happen where people got fired after having knee surgery and coming back, etc. It raises the premium rates for the company and they don't like that. (I am in remission by the way and have only cost them so much as one surgeon's doctor visit and one chemo checkup doctor visit (for blood work)..)

If they find out, then it could be denied or insurance fraud... It is your decision to make...You might want to watch the Michael Moore movie "Sicko" to help you decide what to do...

P.S. sometimes there are sort of health care "bureaus" like credit bureaus that insurance companies can find out past medical histories on people....like credit bureaus...I don't know if they are still legal after HIPPA health privacy laws were passed a few years back..
If they find out your whole policy will be canceled, you also could find yourself up on fraud charges. Insurance companies take that stuff pretty seriously. If your son has any surgical scars from his prior treatment they'll be noted.
Yes unfortunately if they find out it will. Those bast***s have ways of finding out everything about you. Just tell the truth. There may be a clause about pre-existing condition being over with due to the time frame and it shouldn't affect you payment. Talk to your provider about it and see if you have other options. There are private policies you can get now for just that reasons. Corporate policies can be a rip off but you will have to do some research. Good luck!
You or your son could be denied coverage of an illness (surgery or medicine, whatever) if you are found to have falsified insurance forms...what if you or your son (God forbid) became sick and ran up immense bills? It DOES happen!
You would most likely, then, never be able to obtain coverage again...
Honesty is ALWAYS best....and with some companies, if he has been cancer free for a number of years, your policy should not increase much, if it all.
Employer sponsored insurance is negotiated on your behalf by the company you work for. I don't think they Can raise an individual's rate due to a previous or"existing" condition. (In most cases...)

They CAN exclude that particular illness from their coverage, but if your son is cured, that should be no problem. (This is what they do if a woman is diagnosed as pregnant Before her insurance starts...)

I can tell you this--if you lie on the application, they will research your history and will find the lie out. You will then lose the insurance, and perhaps the job. You may even be accountable under fraud laws.

It sucks, but two wrongs... yada yada yada...
There are insurance investigators with every company. Nothing would probably happen now, but God forbid your son would need more care, you might get caught. Plus we ALL pay since the insurance companies will just raise their premiums if they suffer losses and have to pay out too much. Even if we say , well the new job company has to pay it, they will raise the price of their product which we buy. So we are all in the pot together! Anway I pray your son is cured and will be very healthy.
