Saw on news last night that 27% of U.S. deaths are from heart disease, while 0.7% are from homicide of ALL...?

...kinds, including stabbings, chokings, beatings, and gun violence... 0.7%...

Isn't that a pretty compelling case for banning cigarettes and fast food instead of assault weapons? You could save tens of thousands more people by doing that than you could with any further restriction in gun rights. Am I wrong?

Story was on CNN last night...

Did prohibition work?

Apparently a large percentage of my fellow citizens think so because they continuously think the government should play babysitter and "ban" things.

You cannot regulate personal choices. You CAN waste trillions of dollars trying. Our kids will be sure to thank you when they are living in hovels with little food.

Cars kill thousands every year, maybe we should just ban those too.

Did you know that 100% of stupid ideas come from people? Maybe we should just ban people.

Thanks for the best answer and welcome to the club of common sense! We need more like you! Report It

Banning any of them is an intrusion on my freedom.

Freedom means you can make choices. It also means you can make bad choices.

How many people have you heard of being killed by a drive-by Big Mac?

I can only kill myself by eating poorly. Some fool with a gun can take out a bunch of other innocent victims.

Why is this not obvious to you?

Wow, I hadn't heard of that . . . talk about being unhealthy. IF that's really true, yeah I agree it makes more sense to ban cigarettes and fast food.

It's not a compelling argument because food and cigarettes don't kill people in one sitting. It takes years for any heart related illness or disease to proliferate. A gun only takes one shot to kill someone. The government is already trying to do things to prevent heart disease by informing the public. They are also raising awareness of what cigarettes do to your health through commercials and larger warning labels. It's up to the public whether or not they want to listen. You just can't ban something especially if it goes against your right to free enterprise (starting your own business). It's not a compelling argument and it's not really feasible to do that, but it does make you a more aware citizen of what's going on in the world. It will make people think.

Is it your position that if you ban fast food then people will just cease to die?

We need a mandatory 3 day waiting period or background checks before allowing people to have heart attacks.

Interesting..... so food and cigarettes are premeditated murder vs the instant gratification of illegally utilizing a firearm.

SHEESH!

Heart disease is the number 1 killer in the United States. Most people die of heart failure of some sort....whether they smoke or not, whether they have a lousy diet or not.

The government needs to keep it's nose out of peoples private lives and stop trying to regulate behavior.....We don't need a "nanny" government.

Trust me when I tell you this......EVERYONE dies, and most die of heart failure of some sort.....
