What is heart disease and heart attack?

Heart Disease is a number of abnormal conditions affecting the heart and the blood vessels in the heart.
....while a Heart Attack occurs when blood flow to a section of heart muscle becomes blocked. If the flow of blood isn鈥檛 restored quickly, the section of heart muscle becomes damaged from lack of oxygen and begins to die.

Heart disease is caused usually by having diseased arteries. Heart disease means your heart has suffered enough damage to impair its function. Clogged arteries cause less oxygen to reach your heart, causing the heart to function worse and worse.

Heart attacks occur when the heart does not get enough oxygen, again usually because of clogged arteries. When the heart does not get enough oxygen due to clogged arteries, part of the heart muscle dies. This is a heart attack.

I have posted a link that explains how your arteries work and how clogged arteries lead to heart disease.

don't know that much about it but its very serious. my brother was born with a messed up heart valve and he got into drugs as a teen and this stress on his heart caused it to enlarge and he was diagnosed with heart failure. and on Christmas night he went to the emergency room cause he was sick and he was admitted with pneumonia and they were doing a procedure and his hear stopped and couldn't get oxygen. and because his heart was so weak he never recovered and passed away on February 2nd.

A disease whether in the heart or any other part of the body is an abnormal or malfunction of the normal working order of the organ.
A heart attack can be brought on by many factors. I woke up one morning and my left anterior descending artery was 100% blocked. I suffered a heart attack.
Your question is general and so is my answer, but there are a lot of places you can check to get alot more information. Try the American Heart Association.

Good luck!

This is a very big topic with a lot of answers, so in a nutshell, heart disease is any condition in which the heart does not perform its normal "duties," to circulate blood first to the lungs to pick up oxygen then out to the rest of the body to deliver that oxygen. Conditions can be from birth, or develop at any stage of life, and many things contribute to heart disease like: drugs, obesity, high blood pressure, poor diet, lack of exercise, too much build up of cholesterol and plaque in vessels, too much calcim, not enough calcium, too much potassium, not enough potassium, too much sodium, not enough sodium, etc....There are thousands of things that cause heart disease--even plain ol' bacteria or too much fluid buildup....But the main cause for most Americans is too much plaque build-up, caused from cholesterol and fat.

A heart attack is when something blocks off the flow of blood to the actual heart muscle or tissue (usually plaque). Without a source of blood flow with oxygen, heart muscle begins to die quickly. Dead tissue will no longer contract to pump blood to the lungs and rest of bodily vessels...That's a heart attack. If the area without oxygen is small enough and becomes revascularized quickly enough, the rest of the heart can continue to do enough work for the heart to keep pumping and the person will live, but it the area of heart tissue is large, or doesn't get treatment to break up the blockage fast, and a lot of heart tissue dies, then the heart cannot overcome the deficit, and quits while trying....and the person dies. That's why it is so important to go to the emergency room fast and early when there is any hint at all of chest pain, or tightness, or discomfort. Sometimes the pain or discomfort is in the neck, or back, or arms, or jaw--and sometimes there is no pain at all....best to be preventative and go have physicals to determine health risks before you're in an unsure moment and trying to decide whether or not to call 911....and let me say that if you think you might need 911, just go call. It's far better to err on the side of caution, and go to ER and burp than wonder at home and die because you were unsure...Hope this answers your question...
