What are some cardiovascular diseases (heart diseases) that affect children and adolescents? Thanks!?

Congenital heart disease
Viral Myocarditis
Tuberculous pericarditis
Rheumatic heart disease
Kawasaki's disease
Cardiac tumours
Cardiomyopathy - all types

In that age range, the most likely causes are congenital abnormalities or problems related to infectious/toxic exposure. There are certain structural abnormalities that people can have since birth related to the failure of certain parts to form properly or openings through which blood is shunted when you are a fetus not closing properly. Usually, large abnormalities are picked up shortly after birth due to failure to thrive but people can persist in having small abnormalities such as PFO (patent foramen ovale) into adulthood.

Infections, including viral and bacterial, can also cause heart problems. Some, such as rheumatic fever cause damage to the actual structure of the heart while others, like Kawasaki's disease, effect the vessels around the heart. Both are related to immune reactions gone wild in reaction to infections such as streptococcus (same thing that causes strep throat).

Toxins would be another more common cause. I have seen relatively young people die of heart attacks from cocaine, crack and methamphetamine. Certain medications, like syrup of ipecac and certain cancer drugs can significantly weaken the heart as well.
