It is what is called a by-pass surgery. They reroute the arteries so they can get blood to area cut off by clogged arteries. Usually they use arteries from elsewhere in body.

surgery wise it can be done either by
_PTCA=percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty i.e the doc insert a catheter from the skin right to your coronary artery then try to remove the thrombus and then either s/he puts a a stent or no
_CABG=coronary artery by-pass graft the doc will use other artery from your body like (internal mammary artery )to replace the blocked coronary artery so the new artery would be attached from your aorta to the cardiac muscle and convey blood to it..

why you do the first not the 2 depending on your condition cause there are indication for each one
