Where can I find a risk assessment for heart disease on the internet? |
Where can I find a risk assessment for heart disease on the internet? Just do a search on "heart disease risk assessment". It will give a list of things that will fit you or not: Age, family history, smoking history, overweight, regular exercise, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, healthy diet, adequate fresh foods in the diet, stress, etc. They use those to establish a probability that you are likely to get it, and when. Some of us get it despite the statistics. I think webmd has something like that. You can also look up the American Heart Association's website... I'd be certain they'd offer something. Do a Google search for "Framingham risk calculator" - about fifty sites will come up, all allowing you to calculate your "Framingham risk score," an imperfect but still useful way of assessing 10-year risk for coronary artery disease events. You'll need to know your total and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, and medical history. It's worth mentioning that being evaluated appropriately by a trained physician adds significantly to that risk assessment, since there are lots of factors that aren't captured by Framingham risk alone. Below is two websites with risk assessments for heart disease. http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/guide... http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.j... www.webmd.com or do a wide search www. assessment for heart disease and you will find multiple sites with different ways to reach an assessment Questions you should be prepared to answer are your age height weight family history and lab results pertaining to total cholesterol with HLD and your LDL and triglycerides a nd a few questions regarding your life style such as exercise etc. nurse |
