Is it true that thousands more women die every year of heart disease than breast cancer? |
I read that heart disease kills something like 4 times the amount of women than breast cancer. There is so much awareness of breast cancer, so many charities and high profile events etc but harldy anything for heart disease. Why is this? * 8,000,000 American women are currently living with heart disease - 10% of women ages 45 - 64 and 25% age 65 and over. * 6,000,000 of women today have a history of heart attack and/or angina or both. Nearly * 13% of women age 45 and over have had a heart attack. * 435,000 American women have heart attacks each year; 83,000 are under age 65 and 9,000 are under age 45. Their average age is 70.4. * 4,000,000 women suffer from angina, and 47,000 of them were hospitalized in 1999. Mortality: * Heart disease is the leading cause of death of American women and kills 32% of them. * 43% of deaths in American women, or nearly 500,000, are caused by cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke) each year. * 267,000 women die each year from heart attacks, which kill six times as many women as breast cancer. * 31, 837 women die each year of congestive heart failure, or 62.6% of all heart failure deaths. When I was younger a dietician turned around and told me "women can't have heart attacks" Cancer is a huge killer, but not enough screening is done. When lumps are found in young women they are told..you are too young, its probably a cyst. I am sorry I am diviating!! People are less healthy now adays, and smoking is higher, fatty fast foods are consumed more from a young age (when I was young, I went about twice a year, as a treat). People can't cook so turn to ready meals stuffed with additives and and preservitives. Driving another cause, the fumes and pollution that people breathe in, sitting instead of walking. Our lifestyles in general don't help, and when a woman tries to do everything, work, look after her children, look after her family, juggle everything, it will take its toll on her body! But I must admit as a heart patient myself once you get inside the sircle of that the support you get is amazing. because people don't associate heart disease to women. |
