The Oxygen level is only about 60% of what it is at sea level. If you go that high too quickly you will most likely have a heart attack. Be careful. Consult a Cardioligist Generally speaking there should not be any problems, but there are a couple of points that are noteworthy. At altitude your body increases red blood cell production to improve its ability to gather oxygen from the air (since there's less oxygen available at that height). This may affect your blood's thickness, so your doctor should be aware of this when prescribing any blood thinning/anti-clotting agents (like coumadin). It's also possible that you'll get fatigued more quickly than at low elevation because of the oxygen content and need for blood thinning to prevent clots. |
