What kind of vitamins do you avoid if you have hepatitis c ?

What kind of vitamins do you avoid if you have hepatitis c ?

As mentioned earlier Iron is a NO NO...even using iron skillets can cause problems. The liver plays an important role in the metabolism of iron since it is the primary organ in the body that stores this metal. The average American diet contains about 10- 20 mg of iron. Only about 10% of this iron is eliminated from the body. Patients with chronic
hepatitis C sometimes have difficulty excreting iron from the body. This can result in an
overload of iron in the liver, blood, and other organs. Excess iron can be very damaging to the liver.
Due to the excess fluid one can aquire with HCV (ascites) a low sodium diet is also suggested.
As far as suggesting some things that are helpful with HCV. Milk Thistle has been shown to be very good as well as a product called Liverite.
Nutritional guidelines for those with liver disease includes
鈥?60- to 70-percent carbohydrates鈥攑rimarily complex carbohydrates, such as pasta and whole-grain breads.
鈥?20- to 30-percent protein鈥攐nly lean animal protein and/or vegetable protein.
鈥?10- to 20-percent polyunsaturated fat.
鈥?8- to 12 eight-ounce glasses of water per day.
鈥?1,000 to 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day.
鈥?No alcohol.
鈥?Avoidance of processed food.
鈥?Liberal consumption of fresh organic fruits and vegetables.
鈥?Avoidance of excessive caffeine consumption鈥攏o more than 1 to 3 cups of caffeine-containing beverages per day.
鈥?Vitamin D and calcium supplement.
- Vitamin C
- an antioxidant such as vitamin E or CoQ 10
- Glucosamine chondroitin

Cheapo vitamins from the drugstore and mega dose vitamins I wouldn't take either.

None.

Nobody should be megadosing vitamins anyhow, that was so a 1970's pseudoscience fad and I would hope nobody is still doing that crud today.

That being said if you have a well balanced diet then you will get all the vitamins your body needs. Vitamins are a group of unrelated chemical compounds that the body of a specific animal doesn't produce enough of on their own. if you have a vitamin deficiency then you have a known disease. if you have enough, you don't. Higher doses of vitamins add billions to the pharmaceutical industry but add absolutely nothing to health.

However, since Hepatitis C causes cirrhosis it is even MORE important to not damage your liver with over doses of Vitamin A. Aside from that, eat well and perhaps take a multivitamin once every few days or so.

fffffffffffffffffff

For the most up to date information about Hep C and diet (including specific info on most vitamins) check out the follwoing resource:

There are no vitamins that you need to AVOID, and in fact, vitamin supplementation with Hep C may be an important part of your care. Always take vitamins that your doctor has approved.

As always, a correct diet would eliminate the need for vitamin supplimentation, however, we also know that is not an easy task.

Vitamins in those with hcv are contradicted if the vitamins contain IRON. Those with any type of liver disease or damage should not consume a lot of iron.

Vitamins in mega doses (such as suggested on curezone.com- full of quackery) is a huge NO.

Excess of any kind of vitamin including A, E and K can cause more liver damage.

Try to eat more fruits and veggies (veggie protein is easier to digest).

No red meats or leafy greens that may contain iron or contain higher amounts of protein.

Water, teas and coffee. *unless you have panic attacks just drink water and non caffinated liquids*
