Is there treatment for hepatitis C? |
Is there treatment for hepatitis C? Yes, it's pegylated interferon & ribavirin taken for 48 weeks. I did the treatment almost 8 years ago and have been cleared of hep c since. Get a lot of information on it and learn how to manage side effects. The better prepared you are, the better your chances of clearing the virus are. Best wishes. Feel free to email if you have more questions. I facilitate a support group for HCV since 2001. A new treatment for Hepatitis C which includes a longer-acting form of interferon has been found to cure more patients and cause less side effects, in a study conducted in 81 medical centers. some of you may be unaware but Infergen is the newer form of treatment....side effects are supposed to be less than that of pegulated interferon. There definately IS a treatment for Hep C...as I am on it. There are also different genotypes of the Hep C virus. Treatment with the weekly interferon shots and the pills twice daily...is a long and winding road. Depending on the genotype...treatments last either 24 or 48 weeks. Success of a cure with the treatment also varies by genotype. 80% with the 24 week and 50% with the 48 week. |
