DOC'S ONLY:prednisone/hepatitis question?

I have autoimmune hepatitis, its just beggining so im fine, my liver its not inflammed at all and my liver biopsy says its not damaged yet, but i hav the disease.
i dont want to take prednisone or any other corticosteroids because i used to be fat, so i have a tendency to gain a LOT of weight, i have VERY acneic skin so it would make me look like a monster and im a boxer so i cant afford to be out of shape.
IS IT ANY ALTERNATIVE FOR STEROIDS?
MY LIVER IS NOT INFLAMMED SO DO I REALLY NEED THEM?
CAN I TAKE AZATHIOPRINE ONLY?


pd: i wont take prednisone for nothing in the whole world, i've met people who had their lives ruined by this drug (A LOT OF PEOPLE). some of them took small doses and the side effects were also horrible

Auto immune hepatitis requires corticosteroids to prevent hepatocellular destruction. Taking azathioprine, an antimetabolite, alone, is much riskier. When steroids are utilized correctly and appropriately, the problems you describe are extremely rare. They occur when people abuse them.
