Is Hepatitis C being used to develop any type of antiviral medication? |
i meant,is hepatitis C virus being studied to use like for example vaccinations and antibiotics kind of like how we have flu shot There is antiviral medication for hepatitis c, if that is what you mean. It is called Pegasys (that's one brand name), and the other brand is called PegIntron. Pegasys is pegylated (fat molecule encapsulated) interferon alpha 2a weekly injections given with Ribavirin pills taken daily. PegIntron is pegylated interferon alpha 2b weekly injections taken with ribavirin, too. Pegasys is metabolized in the liver, and PegIntron is metabolized in the kidneys. Both have similar results in clearing the HCV virus. Hope this helps. |
