Can cats get hepatitis? |
Our calico Maine Coon is 7 and is having serious liver problems. She is jaundiced and has gone from 15 down to 9lbs in a short time. The vet says it might be a tumor, or a cancer but no way to tell with out $$$$ tests (1-2K for an ultrasound and no way to tell if it would show anything). Anyway, they put her on a med that improves liver cell regeneration and a special diet. If it is a tumor/cancer, I know she is done for. Hepatitis just means inflammation of the liver, so yes, cats do get it. But as your vet has probably explained already, there are lots of other causes for liver disease, such as infection, tumours, lipidosis, damming up of bile etc. Certainly such a rapid loss of weight would tend to be a poor prognostic indicator. Often the blood test will give you an idea of the severity of the disease, although that won't always tell you the cause. On the upside, cats can be really ill with some liver conditions and make it through ok with treatment. Tumours of the liver don't generally hold a very good prognosis :( The only way to tell for sure is to do an ultrasound and biopsy. Sorry, can't be more helpful. Good luck! Hi there...sorry to hear about your cat not feeling well. Cats can get hepatic lipidosis which causes the symptoms you are describing. It is very life-threatening, however it if is cancer the only way to know is through ultrasound tests. |

You're cleared of hep A, you said so. :D ...No, drinking won't effect the test. The test is done by using something that looks for the antibodies your immune system makes when you have Hep. The only way you can have these antibodies ... I had an easy time with the (Roche) Pegasys treatment (48 weeks) it really didn't give me any side effects until week 29 of my treatment. Drink a ton of water and get your excercise if you ... With all the illegals coming into this country, I would say yes ...You'll find all kinds of heated debates online about the efficacy of vaccines, or the toxic ingredients used, all over the web. It has been a hot topic for years, but is especially brought in... You should check w/ your doctor. I think you can if you don't have the hepatitus thing anymore. But, just ask your doctor, for incase. ...no no no..don't do anything if your starting treatment! no herbs..no miracle cures...
