Hepatitis C Test Results?

My lab reports say:

Hepatitis C Ab = Negative [NEG]

HCV RNA Quantitative - Specimen Descrip.: Serum
HCV results (IU): PEND
HCV results (LOG): PEND
HCV comment: PEND

Since the first test says NEGATIVE, do I need to be worried about the ones that are still PENDING?

Hi, there.

With a negative antibody screen, unless the patient is immunocompromised (has another unrelated issue that is weakening their immune response -- ie cancer chemo/radiation, late stage HIV, or is a transplant recipient)
there is no need to do further testing.....unless the patient may not yet have seroconverted (meaning they were recently infected and are still in the window period).

If you were testing because of a recent possible exposure (within the last 6 months) you may want to get another screening test, but if not, a negative antibody test is sufficient and you should not be concerned.
