Hepatitis C is rarely transmitted through sexual contact UNLESS there is blood to blood cross contamination during sex. Usually that is from rough sex or anal sex or through atypical kinky sex practices. The CDC does not recommend people who are in stable, monogamous, heterosexual relationships to change their sexual practices or use protection.

If someone has multiple partners (and I don't mean at one time, I mean over a period of a few years) the risk increases. The risk of sexual transmission also increases if there is also HIV infection. But in general, sex between monogamous couples is not a high risk factor for transmitting HCV.

Hepatitis C has a treatment that is effective overall in about 60% of those who take it. The success rate depends on what genotype of hepatitis c you have. Genotype 1 has about a 50% success rate, genotypes 2 & 3 have about a 80% or higher success rate.

hepatitis hve many subtypes A,B ,C ,D,E,and G etc. A and E are not transmitted sexually. they are not that severe also - usually short lasting and self limitting. but B , C and D are dangerous . they are transmitted sexually.they may persist for a very long time ,say ,a lifetime. medicines are available which allows a near normal life ,anyway. a condom can definitely protect you . prevention is better than cure.
