I had diagnosed Hepatitis B in 2006, despite vaccinated twice in 1997 and2001. what could be the cause ?

I have been under going regular yearly medical check up since1990. presently, my ALT is 34 and ultra sound of whole abdomin area including liver is normal. I am 45 years. no extra maratial activities or realationship in whole life.

From Wikipedia: "HBV can be transmitted between family members within households, possibly by contact of nonintact skin or mucous membrane with secretions or saliva containing HBV. However, at least 30% of reported hepatitis B among adults cannot be associated with an identifiable risk factor."

I can also tell you from experience that the Hep B vaccine does not always confer immunity. A few years after having the series of three shots, my doc ran a blood test that determined I had no existing immunity to the virus, so I had to go through the three shot deal a second time.

Also, even with the proper three shot vaccination schedule, only about 85% of vaccinated people develop the appropriate immune response. Also from Wikipedia: "Poor responses are mostly associated with being over the age of 40 years, obesity and smoking, and also in alcoholics, especially if with advanced liver disease."

Hope that info is helpful.

I would be asking for access to your medical records. A vaccine is normally a dose of a live virus! Its possible your 2nd dose has took you above the treshold and left you a carrier!

I am feeling super bad for you right now!

Take care and dont let this lay!

You state that you were "vaccinated twice in 1997 and 2001". The hep B series is a series of 3 vaccines over 6 months. Is this what you had in 1997 and 2001? Are you saying you had 6 vaccinations?
