Can someone be cleared of Hepatitis C after 15 years? |
whats the likelihood of clearing hep c after having it for 15 years, and while drinking alot of alcohol? Considering that liver damage is caused by both Hepatitis C and excessive intake of alcohol, the chances of a full recovery from Hepatitis C would be slim at best, especially if no treatment has been given. This person will be very lucky to avoid cirrhosis and ultimately liver cancer. Unfortunately, you can never be truly "cured" of HepC. First of all, it never just goes away. You will carry it for the rest of your life. What is important though is if it is active. A Core-RNA test will determine this. If that test comes up negative then you are effectively "cured" even though you still carry the virus; you just are not active with it. You still cant donate blood and you can still pass it on to someone else. If the test comes out positive then the virus is active and treatment, including Interferon, may be required. highly doubtful. hcv is chronic in 85% of those who contract hcv. by drinking and having hcv infection, your chances of liver damage increase dramatically. People who clear HCV clear it spontaneously within the first six months. http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/hep_c/new... Although some people clear hep c with treatment, it would be a very rare occurrence for someone to clear it without treatment while drinking a lot of alcohol. Hep C damages the liver, and drinking alcohol is very likely to increase that damage. There is no cure for it and no known cases of it clearing up |
