Can anyone tell me the best alternitive medicine, vitamin or herb for treatment for HEPATITIS C ???????

Don't fool around with alternative treatments. There is a very strong association with Hepatitis C and the later development of liver cancer. The most effective treatment is Interferon.

Stephanie about hit it right on the head -

The treatment isn't as bad as most people make it out to be - the people who have trouble are either overly obese, have another chronic ailment like rhematoid arthritis that gets irritated during treatment or have some other genetic problem that cannot handle the medicine. It's still worth a try, if it knocks you down to far, you can stop at any time.

Now if money is the reason you "can't" do treatment, then herbals would cost 3 times as much especially if you did the Lloyd Write system (which is debatable whether it works or not), plus insurance won't pay a dime for alternative tx.

One note:
I agree with Stephanie on just about everything she said except for the Green Leafy Vegies...there are two types of iron, heme and non-heme that the body processes from food. Heme iron is the iron found in red meat it is easy for the body to extract and absorb because it is using the iron in the blood from meat. Non-heme iron is found in green vegeies and nuts...it is not easily absorbed by the body. I think the nutritional benefits of green leafy vegies (i.e. cancer blocking antioxidents) outweight the danger of iron.

I did treatment in 2004 and it worked for me - I avoided almost all side effects with herbal supplements, specific vitamins, excercise, and a ton of water.

Many think alternatives, ie, natural treatment is less harmful. This is further from the truth. Many websites claim they can heal or cure those with chronic diseases without side effects. This is further from the truth. ANY type of treatment has a potential to cause side effects.
Herbs, mega-vitamins etc, may help as far as easing the side effects of hcv infection, but they do not sustain the virus. As long as you have HCV infection, you will have all sorts of health related issues- many of which you have probably unknowingly had already.
I have been friends with quite a few over the years who have treated not just HCV, but other diseases using herbs or natural therapies. I have heard it all. The speels are very misleading and can end a life much too soon. I am speaking from experience. I personally know not one person who has died while enduring antiviral chemotherapy for HCV, but I have learned through the death of a friend, herbal injury related toxins and other organ failure because of their use and belief's of natural therapies.

The ONLY treatment that you may benefit from is antiviral chemotherapy. Most doctors now treat with some sort of Interferon and an oral medication called ribavirin (or an equivalent). Those that are able to tolerate treatment (more often than not) go on to becoming sustained regardless of genotype, however, a few genotypes do not respond to therapy. The treatment is not without benefit! It can lower the virons respsonsible for ongoing liver damage, it can also lower the chance of other diseases associated with having hcv. It can even improve the life until the next available treatment.

Things you can do:
Lower your red meat intake
Take a multi-vitamin without iron ONE PER DAY.
Eat more fruits and veggies and grains
Do not eat leafy greens (they contain iron)
Drink tea if you can- some have panic attacks due to the liver not being able to process caffiene at a fast enough rate
Limit over the counter medications
Drink water
Use regular sugar sparingly instead of artificial sweeteners-which are toxic for those with liver disease. If you have diabetes, ask your local health food store about Stevia instead.
Moderate exersize- even on a good day when you feel you can conquer the world.

Do not EVER take anything without a doctors approval. You will be surprised to find that even though a certain herb is good to take for the liver, you might find it can be harmful to your kidney's.

You see, once your liver is not working properly, the other organs try to take up the slack. This can wear them down. By taking something that seemingly seems okay to take, you can overload other organs with toxic levels of the many bi-products herbs can break down into.

Remember: TOO much is not a good thing. Our livers are sluggish, this leaves the other organs succeptable to disease or the inability to filter out properly.

HCV is a disease in which can later result in cancer of the liver (or other types of cancer....intestinal cancer is found in many with hcv)
Many types of cancer are caused by viral infections. By sustaining the virus, you can also lower your risk at becoming a victim to cancer. (or other organ failure)
To treat the virus, you have to utilize Interferon- that is your only choice if you choose to treat.

By treating early, you also raise the success to treatment at a more favorable outcome.

Favorites to NOT believe in are Lloyd Wright. He was one of the lucky few who beat hcv on his own. It was not the use of herbs.
He states information about Naomi Judd- she ONLY cleared because of interferon treatment-not because she took herbs during treatment.
Pure quackery you can find a http:www.curezone.com in which they have been under the watchful "lawful" eye.

Please follow what your doctor feels is right.

Furthermore, there have been ongoing studies with herbs the last few years. No benefit has been found, infact, the herb most heppers take- Milk Thistle- it has less benefit than previously thought. Independent studies are simply telling you that the treatment suggested on a website have not been studied by scientific doctors or researchers. Most are not even FDA approved and interestingly do not have to be.

Please be advised that some herbs will interfere with true test results- even milk thistle. So avoid them at least two weeks before a known test.

FEAR HCV, NOT IT'S TREATMENT.

Get to a Physician. Hepatitis C is nothing to try to treat yourself.. The nature of the illness will generally preclude any positive effects from alternative drugs or herbs.
