How to distinguish serological between acute hepatitis C and chronic hepatitis C? |
As title, thanks. Chronic hepatitis means having hepatitis for greater than 6 months. Testing would have to be done in order to detect hepatitis via the PCR for the presence of the virus or by elevated enzymes. More than one test is needed as each of the above can be intermittently normal or negative. It is not a serological distinction as a person exposed to HCV will always have an antibody to HCV whether it is a resolved acute hepatitis case or a chronic case. The antibody lasts a lifetime. Hiya! My answer would be to ask your doctor , he or she can order lab work from your blood and also evaluate if you need a treatment plan. I have been through a treatment. Hep C is chronic in most cases, it will remain in the body inactive and in remission with treatment, but I think it depends on the gene type. Its somewhat complicated which is why i advise a doctor or hematologist. Best of luck. First of all, you would know if you had acute HCV because those with acute HCV have noticible symptoms. Secondly, they would run an antibody test and then a RNA PCR test to see how active the infection is. |
