Can a person w/ hepatitis have fluid retention only in the abdomen ,or would fluid be retained all over body? My cousin has hepatitis she is really bad to the point she has to have a transplant She swells mainly around the abdomen but at times she swells other places feet, legs at times hands The doctor put her on a fluid pill and she has cut soda's out of her diet which seems to help some seems like it could be there since that is where the liver is. Alcoholics can develop a fat gut as fat builds up in the liver so I would assume it could be targeted by hepatitis as well Yes they can..this fluid retention is known as ascites....it is typical of hepatitis/cirrhosis. It can be drained with a needle. Not pleasant at all! clinical experience as a registered nurse in a Veterans admintration hospital Only in abdomen and that is called ascites |
