If a person with hepatitis C chhoses no medical help, what will happen????? |
What do you need? Person had HepC, does not want medical help, and wonders what the future holds healthwise Some people with Hep C never no they have it and experience no ill side effects. Others can become very ill. My son has it and I give him an herbal remedy called NuLiver that has kept his liver levels in the normal range for about three years now. I buy the product on line. My brother just completed 11 months of combined Interferon and Ribavirin treatment for hepatitis C, genotype 1 (which is the worst form, according to his infectious disease doctor). What will happen if you do not do medical/medication treatment is that you will most likely develop cirrhosis of the liver and/or liver cancer - neither of which are great alternatives to getting treatment. Even with treatment, the ID doctor told my brother that it could come back again. It was a really rough 11 months for him, but he was able to keep working his job; there were just days when he had to go home early and he took a few sick days here and there. There are lots of support groups out there for people with hepatitis C - I urge you to seek one out. The experience and comfort you can get from these groups is invaluable. Take care of you!!! your liver will shut down in about three weeks and you can get very sick beyond recovery and/or die within three to four weeks. paramedic The virus of Hepatatis C is aprox. dormant for about 20 years, but after that time can destroy the liver in a matter of few years or even months. Only 60 % of infected people is cure by the treatment (interferon) the other 40 % will need a liver transplant because they get cirrosis or cancer in the liver. Personally I had it and I was cure by alternative medication. I have hepatitis C and tried treatment once, 6 years ago. I only did it for 4 weeks, because it killed off a lot of my red blood cells. I have not done treatment since and I've had the virus for 25 years, genotype 1. I do take a few meds to keep me going, such as an anti-viral, two diuretics to keep the fluid build up down, and pain medicine. I have cirhosis and need enulose to keep my head functioning, and I have some side effects from the cirhosis. There is no real cure for hepatiti C, though some are helped by the treatment and I was going to have a transplant, but changed my mind after so much of the research showed that I would most likely be sicker than before in a short time. So, I do what my soul knows is right, don't feel sorry for myself, and try to keep my head busy thinking about things besides how long I have to live. I live each day to its fullest and get a lot of my good feelings from helping others who are scared and confused. Tell your friend that there is never a way to know what the future holds and to follow his heart and not his head. He/she will know what to do as the time passes and we are always free to change our minds. There is no shame in deciding to do something differently than you first planned, because with time comes change and that's healthy. I will send your friend wishes of good health and dreams of a long life. Terri K Many are not aware of what all HCV can cause. HCV is not just a liver disease. It affects all organs and all tissues. Quality of life is severely affected over time. There are many bi-directional diseases associated with HCV. Personally, If I were you and antiviral chemotherapy was an option, I would certainly take the chance. The sooner the better. Sometimes the side effects from a chronic disease such as HCV are not reversable even if you are a responder and are considered cured (1 year post antiviral chemotherapy or longer). You can take milk thistle-this herb will help reduce the inflammation of the liver and will also help knock down the alt and ast levels if they are elevated, but this is not a cure. Many who think their Alt and Ast levels are reduced by milk thistle think they are cured, but the truth is, HCV is still doing what it does: destroy the liver and affect other organs and tissues. I personally have never met anyone cured with herbs or any other non traditional therapies, but I have known a few that had the right body chemistry to fight it off. You can change your diet. low or no sodium, iron or sugars (artificial or refined) NO ALCOHOL-period....drinking or rubbing kinds! very little red meat, if at all possible, none. eat more vegetables and grains (if you do not have intestinal bi-directionals such as diverticulitis, chrons or ibs). drink water and clear liquids. coffee's and tea's are okay as long as you do not have panic attacks due to caffiene buildup due to liver damage and the livers inability to filter quick enough. lay low on any form of OTC drugs as well as prescription drugs if you can. i know that fibro and arthritic pain is high in those with hcv, but pain medications are the worst. last but not least, join a support group-but chances are many will not understand your wishes not to treat. for the most part it has to do with quality of life as to why folks treat, the others do not want to die from having hcv. i must tell you that with hcv, you can be fine one day and seriously and dangerously ill the next. speaking from experience. i have known one close friend who died of bi-directional diseases-kidney's went bad, heart was bad and he slipped into a coma and due to the heart and kidney failure, could not do dialysis. i also have a friend of mine that went to the ER with diverticulitis. he was released and told to watch certain foods. he did so, only to return 9 months later and it was then they found his liver was grade and stage 3.4. (cirrhosis). he has done treatment once, responded and then the viral level shot back up at the 6 month mark. the doctor told him what to do while awaiting the next type of medication. regardless, joey will more than likely need a liver transplant, that is, unless some major organ gives before that. so with that being said-you just never know. |
