Does anyone my age have hepatitis c? Does anyone have any suggestions of what ican do about it? |
I am 21 years and have hepatitis c, we assume I got it at some point in my life from my mother who also has it. I know of people with the virus but they are all at least 20 years older than me and would like to meet someone my age to talk about it with. Also, does anyone know what foods I should eat to help support my liver? Pegylated interferon & ribavirin is the only combination of medicines that have a 50-80% success rate of treating the virus (depending on the genotype). I did the treatment and have cleared it 6 years ago. Try going to a support group to meet others your age. Unfortunately, many young people are not diagnosed yet because they don't have symptoms. Milk thistle may help improve liver functions, but it may skew lab results while on treatment, so some doctors don't like patients to take it while on treatment. Source(s): HCV educator, advocate, & survivor A few years ago there was a six-month treatment course using a drug called Interferon (I think the spelling is right). You might want to discuss that with your doctor. Cases I heard of were treated successfully. not sure about food, but I think you need to stay away from alcohol, especially hard liqure, it will advance liver deterioration much faster. i do not have hepatitis c but i have a friend who is younger than you that does she contracted it through drug use she takes vitamins that are supposed to help with the liver below is what it has in it. the link below will take you to the web site were she buys it.i will also show her your question and if she chooses to contact you.... Supplement Facts Specially Formulated to Support: Hepatitis C Amount Per Serving % DV Vitamin C 500 mg 833% Vitamin E 200 IU 667% Choline Bitartrate 100 mg Inositol 50 mg Alpha Lipoic Acid 100 mg Amount Per Serving % DV Milk Thistle Extract 50 mg L-Methionine 250 mg Dandelion Extract 100 mg Daily Value (DV) not established Mitamins Advanced Formula (MAF) for Hepatitis C "This formula focuses on enhancement and protection of the liver functions with components thought to prevent infection and diminish viral load. Strong botanicals are also included to help clear excess fat from the hepatic system."---Dr. Balch Studies have suggested that Vitamin C can help with hepatitis in patients although these results have not been repeated. Dandelion promotes the formation of bile and removes excess water from the body. Lipotropic components including Milk Thistle Extract, Choline, Inositol and L-Methionine help maintain healthy liver function. As an antioxidant, Alpha-lipoic Acid shields the liver from potentially harmful cell changes and assists it in flushing toxins from the body. Preliminary studies have shown that Vitamin E supplementation might be effective in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. http://www.mitamins.com/mitamins/landing... I had hep C and was put on Interferon and chemo for a year. It is undetectable now but to help my liver I still take Milk-thistle pills. I get them out of Wal-Mart |
