Is there any cure for chronic hepatitis B? Interferon, ribavirin - how effective they really are? Very complex question, Chronic Hep B by definition means presence of Hepatitis B Core Antigen > 6 months. Currently, only approved treatment in US includes Interferon OR Lamivudine (Ribavirin is for Hep C), and they will decrease the viral load and replication of the Virus and the person may do one of several things, go into remission, have no effect, honestly it all depends on the subtype of Hepatitis B virus the patient has and the response to the meds. Don't give up hope, continue the medication and be vigilent in testing the viral load until it is eradicated! Hep C has drug treamtent too, but so far there is no medication that will stop it completely. No, unforunately there is no cure. Riboviran and Interferon or usually used in the stages of these diseases. |
