How often should one receive the hepatitis B vaccine in their lifetime? i have had the complete course done 2x |
and was recently told by a nurse practioner that i don't need the vaccine again-coz i have 6 doses of it already-i am in med school-so do i need to get this done anyhow? As u r still young & had a few courses already u r probably good for the next 8-10 years. As a med student u need to have a antibodies blood test (this will confirm if u r covered) u will also need to have HAV (hep a vax if not had already) There is no vaccine as yet for Hep C, I am a Blood Borne Virus educator & we r still waiting for the vax, due to my work with HIV/AIDS & Hep C have had hep A & B vax which has me covered for the next 8-10 hope this helps As you are in Med school you need Hepatitis C. self one shot each in two consecutive months. the 3rd dose must be after 6 months. booster dose must be a year after. You might request a Hep. B test to see if your body has responsed to the vaccine. If your results show immunity then you do not need the vaccine. If you are not showing immunity, you might inquire if another course of vaccine is an option. Good idea to get the Hep. A & C vaccine also. One should only need one complete series(3 shots, over a six month period) in order for the body to build up its imunity to hep B. Local health dept and family physician |
