Hepatitis B is a virus that attacks the liver. A small proportion of people infected with the virus do not clear it from their bloodstream. They 鈥榗arry鈥?the virus, without showing any symptoms, for many years. This is more common the younger the person is when first infected. These 鈥榗arriers鈥?can pass it on to others.
Some people show no symptoms when they are infected with hepatitis B, or the symptoms may be very mild and flu-like.
A few people suffer more severe illness and lead to of liver failure soon after getting sick.
