What is the origin of the hepatitis virus?

What is the origin of the hepatitis virus?

The hepatitis virus is not a specific type of virus but a group of viruses which are known to attack the liver (Hepatos- Liver titis-inflammation). They have been named A, B, C, D and E virus. Each individual virus has a specific manner of infection and is associated with a specific risk of severity of liver damage.
Most can cause acute hepatitis which is a relatively sudden event which we see as jaundice: yellowing of the skin. Some can cause Chronic hepatitis which is liver damage beyond 6 months. This may then either disappear or keep on distroying the liver (chronic liver disease) and result in a abnormal useless liver (cirrhosis). Some of these cases have an increased risk of liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) especially with Hepatitis C virus. However as said before each virus has its own risk and say for example, Hepatitis A virus usually causes illness only to heal normally after a period of time. So while some are acquired through food and have a good outlook (Hep A virus) others are acquired mainly through contaminated blood and have a worse outlook (Hep C virus).
I would advise you to consult a doctor and ask about the specific hepatitis virus that you are interested in as they all behave differently. You can also search the internet and there are many good sites for this information.
