Will the LAPD hire me if I have hepatitis B?

I was recently diagnosed with hep b and I was already screened for liver count which was normal and cancer which was negative. I just dont know if that would prevent me, I am almost done with my hiring process.

I am a paramedic with Hep C and diagnosed about 4 years ago and battling it with drugs since. I stayed on the ambulance working, there are precautions you can take, but you will take those anyway when you deal with blood. DEEP KISSING cannot transmit the disease, SEX cannot transmit the disease, Hep B is very treatable, 24 weeks of meds and you have about a 70% chance of getting rid of it the first time, Hep C is much harder to treat and I have been on 2 rounds of treatments and have until Chistmas, If you want information on treatment and other things there is 2 great sites, One is clinicaloptions.com and the hcvadvocate, my concern would be with the insurance Co. You may not have to tell your employers about the Hep but you will have to tell the insurance Co for the LAPD, and there is the rub.
In most cases, hepatitis B causes limited infection. Usually people manage to fight off the infection successfully within a few months, developing an immunity that lasts a lifetime. (This means you won't get the infection again.) Blood tests show evidence of this immunity, but no signs of active infection.

However, some people don't get rid of the infection. If you are infected with hepatitis B for more than 6 months, you are considered a carrier, even if you have no symptoms. This means that you can transmit the disease to others by having unprotected sex, deep kissing or sharing food or drinks.

To me this means that you probably will fight it off and it won't be an issue anymore, and if you don't fight it off you will know that you have some precautions to take at work. Unless you know that you are a carrier, do you even need to inform them of the condition? Is it really any of their business? Would it keep you from doing your job? They tell you when you're pregnant NOT to bring it up until after you are hired, so maybe this situation should follow the same rule. Just my opinion, though.

no, having liver disease of any kind would not normally hinder your ability to do a job-regardless of where you seek employment.

good luck to you!
