Is it safe to have with a known hepatitis C carrier and is oral sex safe when she is showing negative on..? |
her test. She has been on interfuron for 6 months and I would love to take our relationship up another level. The oral sex is difficult to say, to many variables involved. Probably fine as long as you hadn't brushed your teeth to hard, or had a cold sore, etc. I think an oral dam would be called for to be safe, it's what we use. On the flip side, even the US health professionals (rumor mongers that they are), are beginning to do studies on the transmission of Hep C (HCV) through sexual intercourse, and have fessed up that it just don't happen other than through rough sex, and possibly anal sex without proper lubrication. So you can enjoy sex with her even if she tests positive. I applaud your involvement and congratulate you for not running in the face of all the rumors that fly through. There are sites here and on MSN that are able to answer just about any question you might have. I would suggest Silverfox's Lair in groups at MSN. It's for people involved with someone with HCV. Many sites won't let you in unless you have HCV and so Silver helps with both, she also has Pathlights on MSN for those with HCV. Educate yourself, you've taken a big 1st step, but it is important to remember that negative tests simply mean a viral count below 50 copies of HCV per ml of blood. It's in remission, not dead. My wife of 10 years has been tested twice now, just so we know exactly what we are dealing with, and has shown no antibodies to HCV. This test would do me no good, as I would expect to see antibodies and wouldn't be surprised, but for those who don't have HCV it is the cheapest and simplest test available to use. Oh, by the way, my two children by this marriage tested negative also. I am a non-responder to current therapy, so I was definitly detectable with about 1 million copies. It can be a rough road, but if she has gone into remittance now, there's every likelyhood she would do it again if retreatment became needed. Try Silverfox's Lair on MSN to see what you are getting into, tell them gingerbread man sent you. Source(s): The wonderful world of HCV on a daily basis. (put your favorite cuss in the space occupied by wonderful) Greg, excellent answer! HCV is not spread sexually unless blood to blood transmission occurs. Your answer made my night! Many post false information about HCV. As for the person who posted the question? Go for it. Your an awesome guy for really caring! My uncle has hepatitis C and his wife doesn't. I think it is transferred through blood. You should really ask a doctor though so that you know you get an accurate answer. how about waiting until her level is low enough where you won't be affected. Is it worth the risk? You sound young, so all I am going to say is.... use a condom and don't have oral sex....there is little protection for you even with female condoms. It's not worth the risk. Hepatitis C is infectious and once you get it you can not get rid of it ever. Just remember that, you both need to talk to her doctor who is treating her and ask about this. I would not risk it, it is a death sentence for some. |
