How long can you live after being diagnosed with hepatitis c? what are treatments? |
A friend of my has hepatitis c and has not received treatment after two years of having it Hepatitis C is a chronic liver disease caused by a virus. It is *normally* a very slow process where in the liver under goes inflammation and destruction by the virus. You can live very long and may not even die from the liver problems from hepatitis C. However, you do have an increase chance of liver failure and liver cancer from this disease. There are many treatments available although some are not very effective for certain strains of hepatitis C. Medications such as interferon or ribavirin have been used in to treat hepatitis C. There are a lot of preventive things that your friend can do to help himself -- stay away from medications or alcohol that can tax the liver, get immunized for the hepatitis B, have an bi-annual liver enzyme check to see how his liver is function, etc. He should be under the care of a physician if he hasn't done so. My ex husband had hepatitis c for about 25 years before he knew he had it. He declined treatment. He is not dead. I just don't keep track of him any longer. hello - your friend should be asking these questions of her/his doctor. BS"D what is your friend doing about it. apologies, but the sad truth is, if your friend is not taking the iniative to write in, chances are he/she will not take the advice. regardless: must look after the liver - go to curezone.com and put hep c in the search engine at that site. ask a doctor..but I believe the prognosis can be quite good. My husband of 27 years passed away this last December after his liver completely failed. We learned that it is very typical for Hep C to have an incubation period of 25-30 years. Shortly after his death I was watching Pastor Casey Treat (Seattle area) who said that he had been diagnosed with Hep C and was cured. I would contact him and learn the details. 85% of cases result in liver cancer, but it often lays dormant for over 15 years, we've found that interferon is his best bet. definitely avoid alcohol, we've seen horrible HCV growth with alcohol. or you can look into silymarin, a foreign herbal drink |
