What causes yellowing of the eyes in adults? Aside from hepatitis...? |
If you're tested negative from hepatitis... What else might cause jaundice in the eyes? My girlfriend have normal color skin but the whites of her eyes are yellowish... Is it infectious? What causes that? Thanks... This could be an enormous amount of things. First of all, check her mucous membranes to see if they are yellowed as well. This is bad- Hospital now. But otherwise, if she's on any new medication, I would suggest to look up the side effects- some can cause jaundice. Other causes (other than Hepatitis): *Drug-induced cholestasis (bile collects in the gallbladder because of drug use) *Pancreatic cancer *Hemolytic anemia *Cirrhosis *Genetic disorders (most prominently Gilbert's Syndrome- but she'd probably have this since birth) *Malaria Of course, most reasons for jaundice are very very bad- jaundice is something that would warrant immediate medical attention. If this is genetic, she probably would have been tested before. Also, if she is pregnant, then there are numerous things that cause jaundice that could complicate the pregnancy. If/ WHEN she goes to the doctor, there are some very simple tests that can be performed. gall bladder blockage. liver failure. it is not good, she needs to go to the doctor/hospital right now. could be liver disease You may be experiencing early signs of liver damage, suggest a Dr. do a blood test soon. |
